Bruce Banner, a genetics researcher with a tragic past, suffers an accident that causes him to transform into a raging green monster when he gets angry.

What the critics said: While Ang Lee's ambitious film earns marks for style and an attempt at dramatic depth, there's ultimately too much talking and not enough smashing.

What I said: I loved the concept of making a "comicbook" movie but it failed in the sense it deviated to far from the source material.

Ang Lee's 2003 Hulk failed.  Twelve years after its release people are still discussing why it failed and there is little consensus of the top reason.
The movie did not turn a profit domestically, earned 82% of its box office total in the first 10 days indicating it was a one and done for the core view audience.   But there is more to the story when it comes to box office, its one of the only Marvel films that basically directly competed against multiple similar genre films for the same core audience; Terminator: Rise of the Machines, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and Sinbad.
Ang Lee attempted to have the movie look and feel like a comic book with transitions in comicbook panels, the only major movie to try this.
There was a large deviation from the classic Hulk Origin story.
Complaints about the lack of action sequences abound.
