Fox, Untitled Marvel July 13, 2018

20th Century Fox has announced plans to release an untitled Marvel film on July 13, 2018.

First why announce the date?   This is something of unique situation for 20th Century Fox, sort of, they have announced dates for untitled Planet of the Apes, untitled animation, but untitled Marvel is unique as it doesn't give us any information as they have two Marvel Universes.    This is clearly an attempt to plant the flag against both additional Marvel Competition (Sony and Marvel Studios) and DC Universe (Warner Bros.) but why defend this turf?

Originally there was a lot of chatter that the plan for this movie was X-Men and Fantastic Four crossover, however statements by Simon Kinberg in the last few days seem to be putting the kibosh on those ideas.

Lauren Shuler Donner has announced or confirmed X-Force and Gambit are on the works and that Deadpool is still probably going to happen.  In the past few months she has also suggested there will be a Mystique stand alone film.   Let's not forget that with an interview for Hitflix Hutch Parker, the other producer on X-Men: Days of Future Past, suggests that there is room for the Original Cast somewhere.

So what fits on July 13, 2018?

First I want to say its extremely unlikely to be something out of the Fantastic Four, clearly before we have seen the reboot expanding that universe doesn't make sense.     I know that Stan Lee is on record saying a Silver Surfer movie is happening.   Yet without knowing how the audience receives the Fantastic Four reboot this seems a little out of place as an option.

We know the Channing Tatum has been cast for X-Men: Apocalypse and a follow up movie, so that would be a possibility, but honestly a Gambit Movie by itself doesn't make sense to occupy a date four years out.  It just doesn't seem big enough.

A movie staring the cast of the original three X-Men movies makes the most sense at the moment, however its odd timing, there is momentum today and a 2017 date would make much more sense.

Lets assume that 20th Century has a plan.

We know that the next X-Men movies in their Universe are:
*Fantastic Four - June 2015
X-Men: Apocalypse - May 2016
X-Force - 2016 (October/November?)
The Wolverine 3 - March 2017
*Fantastic Four Sequel - July 2017
Gambit (Fall 2017 ?)
Untitled Marvel - July 2018

We also know that a standalone Mystique movie is in the works.

But the schedule really lines up for a big budget film, sorry Gambit isn't it, neither is Mystique.   You need bigger.

Maybe an X-Factor type of movie?
In reality there are multiple super-hero teams know as X-Factor, the first is a reuniting of the first class (Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Iceman and Jean Gray); the second team was a government sponsored cell (Havok, Mystique, Quicksilver).
The third (or was it forth I forget where Multiple Mans X-Factor Investigations fits in the time line) was Corporate X-Factor and its team includes Gambit, Lorna Dale -aka Polaris, Quicksilver, Warlock and Cypher.

So odds
Less than 1% - Silver Surfer
10% - Gambit
10% - Mystique
30% - Original X-Men trilogy Cast
50% - X-Factor

What say you?
